Ava Enna Enna Thedi

Movie: Vaaranam Aayiram

Music Director: Harris Jayaraj

Singer: Karthik

The beats of the song though are deathly, are foot-tapping. Karthik, has it sung it very soulfully. Thara, thappata has never been so subtly used before. I listen to it almost everyday. Good one by Harris Jayaraj.

Aadi adangum vazhkaiyada

Movie: Neerkumizhi

Music Director: V.Kumar

Singer: Seerkazhi Govindarajan

Philosophy at its best. This is one of those songs in which a comedian has rendered a piece of mind to people around. The words of Suratha and the booming voice of Seerkazhi Govindarajan deliver the simple truth which many of us fail to comprehend. Nagesh, as the leukemia patient, has potrayed the song in his own light style leaving a mark in all our minds.

Listen and contemplate….

Vannam Konda Vennilave

Movie: Sigaram

Music Director: S.P.Balasubrahmanyam

Singer: S.P.Balasubrahmanyam

This singer has also taken up the job of music direction and he has proved his prowess in that as well. The lyrics are also wonderfully penned. This song is based on the raga misra piloo (browsed for the info!!!). I loved the mood this song creates and as usual the divine voice of SPB.

Uyir Ezhuthae

Movie: Dhik Dhik

Music Director: D. Imman

Singer: Bombay Jayashree

A friend of mine suggested this song to me.  Since then, I have become an addict to this song. The situation must be on the same lines like ‘Maargazhi Poove’ introducing the heroine and her passions. I have not seen the video still. Bombay Jayashree’s voice is as ever scintillating. A different sort of a song from Imman. The way the song takes a beautiful turn in the line ‘Naanangal Illakanam En Nalinangal Illakiyam’ is soul stirring.

Oru Naal Podhumaa

Movie: Thiruvilayadal

Music Director: K.V.Mahadevan

Singer: Bala Murali Krishna

A ragamalika song sung by none other than the classical master himself, Bala Murali Krishna. This song was differently done, with the singer revealing the various ragas in the lyrics of the song. My most favorite line is ‘Kaanada en paatu thenada… isai dheivam naanada’. The singer, played by Balaiyya, is very proud of his voice. And truly, BMK’s voice emotes perfectly.

Anbae Anbae Nee En Pillai

Movie: Uyirodu Uyiraga

Music Director: Vidyasagar

Singers: Chitra, Hariharan

Slightly inspired by the song ‘Pyaar Yeh Jaane Kaisa Hai’ from Rangeela, a beautiful romantic melody by Chitra and Hariharan. I like all the intstruments used in this song, especially Violin (in the start) and the Veena (in the middle). Vidyasagar sets a different mood with this song.

Neeye Unakku Endrum Nigaraanavan

Movie: Bale Paandiya

Music Director: Viswanathan-Ramamurthy

Singers: T.M.Soundararajan, Raj M

This is one of my most favortie old songs. A very comical song which is like a debate between a to-be father-in-law and his to-be son-in-law. M.R.Radha as the former and Sivaji Ganesanas the latter. The video would be the best thing to watch as their expressions are really fun. In the end especially when M.R.Radha starts singing the ‘konakkol’ (a form of music used for dancers), his acting is amazing. Have included the video as well the audio file. TMS is simply great in rendering the swaras. Balaji as the accompanist on the ghatam is also equally hilarious. A must watch, this video. But could’nt get the video in the net. If someone has the video, please send me the link, I shall load the same.

Minnale Nee Vandhadhenadi

Movie: May Maadham

Music Director: ARR

Singer: S.P.Balasubrahmanyam

One of the best songs by ARR. Not many knew about this song until very recently. A pathos song, it starts of with a series of violins introducing the subtle and emotional voice of evergreen SPB, calling out for the lost love. And beware if you have just fallen out of a relationship, this song will push you into a trance of sadness. Especially the violins would make you shed a tear or two.

My most favorite song… (with the video)
